Equinox (Bulgarian band)

Equinox is a five-singer Bulgarian pop group that represented Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon with the song Bones . The group was founded especially for the contest.

According to Borislav Milanov, the name “Equinox” comes from the English term “equinox” (German: Equinox ), as this day is celebrated all over the world and is important for many religions. In addition, the term “equinox” comes from the English word “equal”, which means that all members of the group have equal rights.

On March 12, 2018, Bulgarian National Television announced that Equinox will represent Bulgaria in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. The song Bones was produced by Symphonics International, as it was in 2016 and 2017. The song was written by Borislav Milanov, Trey Campbell, Joacim Persson and Dag Lundberg. The group reached the final where they ended up in 14th place.

Members

Zhana Bergendorff ( Bulgarian : Жана Бергендорф) was born on October 20, 1985 in Sofia, the Bulgarian capital. At the age of 18 she moved to South Korea and lived there until 2010 when she moved to Denmark with her fiancé Stefan. There she took part in the casting show X Factor Denmark . In 2013 she gained notoriety for winning the second season of X Factor Bulgaria . Several successful singles followed.

Georgi Simeonov, known as JJ, is a singer, songwriter, and vocal producer. He started his career in the well-known Bulgarian boy band 032 before starting his solo career in 2013. Since 2009 he has been teaching pop, soul and RnB singing and has given master classes in Sofia and Plovdiv. He also took part in the last season of X Factor Romania .

Vladimir Mihailov is a singer, songwriter and actor as well as the front man of the Bulgarian bands Safo and Sleng. He has co-wrote and co-produced all of Sleng's songs since joining the band. Before joining Equinox, he was part of the Bulgarian delegation as a background singer for Kristian Kostow at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 . He has also worked on the Bulgarian dubbing of a number of animated films, including Frozen - Totally Unabashed and Rapunzel - New Spoiled .

Johnny Manuel is originally from Flint , Michigan, and was on tour with * NSYNC at the age of 14 . In 2017 he took part in America's Got Talent , where he reached the semifinals. He then released two singles and began working with Symphonics International on the release of his first album.

Trey Campbell is a Los Angeles based songwriter and one of the composers on Bones . He has also written songs for artists such as Dua Lipa , Bebe Rexha , Julie Bergan and Alexandra Stan .
