Erhard Köllner (born January 11, 1950 in Würzburg ) is a German educationalist , sexologist and psychotherapist whose research focused primarily on the life situation of homosexual people. He has lived and worked in Cologne since 1977 .

life and work

Erhard Köllner grew up as the youngest son of a pastor's family with many children in the Franconian Jura in Creußen (until 1963) and Bamberg (1963–1971). First he trained in business and tax consulting professions. After graduating from high school, he studied religious education and church education at the Augustana University in Neuendettelsau (1973) and then education, psychology and sociology in Würzburg and Cologne.

After the second semester, Köllner became a research assistant at the Institute for Education at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . In 1979 he successfully passed the main diploma examination for pedagogy and trained as a psychotherapist. In 1990 he obtained his doctorate in pedagogy in Cologne with an empirical study on homosexuality entitled "Homosexual Socialization and Gay Counseling". The study on the life context of male homosexuals was based on a 25-page questionnaire with 102 individual questions. His doctoral supervisor, Prof. Heinrich Lenzen, was a student of Otto Friedrich Bollnow and Bollnow in turn was a student of Herman Nohl , the founder of humanities education .

In 1995/1996, Köllner carried out events on client-centered counseling as a lecturer at the curative education faculty of the University of Cologne .

With his main scientific work Homosexuality as an Anthropological Challenge (2001), Köllner sees himself as a successor to his teachers as a representative of humanities education. A central thesis of his work is the criticism of the lack of communication between the generations as a “dialogue between those who are already emancipated and those who are on their way to emancipation”.

The problems and needs of male homosexuals that came to light in his empirical study were the impetus for his pocket book Gay and Self-Confident , which is supposed to provide practical help in life for homosexual men. From his point of view, theory and practice are inseparable for a teacher.

He has been retired since August 2015.
