Erhard Stölting

Erhard Stölting (born November 28, 1942 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German sociologist .

Life

After graduating from high school (1962) in Freiburg im Breisgau , Stölting studied German and Romance studies at the Free University of Berlin until 1964 , then changed subjects and studied sociology , psychology , political science and philosophy there until 1969 (degree: diploma in sociology).

From 1969 to 1972 he was a research assistant at the Central Institute for Social Science Research at the Free University of Berlin , and from 1973 to 1982 scientific assistant at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . Stölting received his doctorate in 1974 at the Free University of Berlin and completed his habilitation in 1982 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he worked as an academic senior counselor in 1982/83 . This was followed by substitute professorships at the University of Bayreuth and the University of Bochum . From 1985 to 1992 Stölting was Professor of Sociology at the Free University of Berlin. He then went to the University of California at Berkeley as a visiting professor for two years . Stölting has been Professor of Sociology at the University of Potsdam since 1994 . He retired in 2007 .
