Erich Münch

Erich Münch (born April 4, 1897 in Bern ; † September 21, 1983 there ) was Colonel Brigadier and head of the Swiss air raid troops .

Life

Erich Münch was born as the son of the architect Max Münch (born July 16, 1859 in Zofingen ; † January 27, 1940 in Hanover ) and his wife Gertrud Ethel (September 5, 1867 in Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire , England ; † 1945 in Bern ), Daughter of the clergyman George William Phipps (1820–1901), born.

He attended high school in Bern and studied architecture and engineering at the Technical University of Munich and in Bern. After completing his studies, he worked in his father's architecture office in Bern.

On December 31, 1918, he was promoted to lieutenant in the Mountain Telegraph Company 2, where he was also promoted to lieutenant on December 31, 1922; During this time he was appointed instruction officer in the engineering troops on August 1, 1922 . When he was promoted to captain on December 31, 1926, he became commander of the Mountain Telegraph Company 12, and on March 6, 1930 he was transferred as a commander to Telegraph Company 1.

On 15 May 1931 he was staff officer on the staff of the 3rd Division in 1932 added to the staff of the Infantry Brigade 8, there on December 31, 1932. On January 1, 1947, he was appointed Brigadier Head of the Air Defense Department in the Federal Military Department , and was promoted to the Oberst Brigadier on January 1, 1950. He played a key role in the creation of the air raid troops in 1951, with 35,000 men as a link served for civil defense . Based on the experiences of the Second World War, he developed a concept that not only dealt with personnel, technical and financial requirements in detail, but also presented measures to inform the population about impending dangers and effective protective measures, especially structural ones, in chronological order.

As the Federal Council representative, he was in charge of the campaign for American army vacationers in Switzerland. Between 1945 and 1949, 700,000 American soldiers came to Switzerland, who were entitled to vacation in Europe after the war. The action was initiated by the Swiss Hotel Association, with logistical support from the Federal Office of Transport.

Erich Münch was married to Hélène Alice, daughter of the doctor Frédéric Emile Charles König, since 1926.
