Erich Trautsch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erich Trautsch (born April 18, 1904 in Saalfeld , † May 28, 1985 in Lübeck ) was a Lübeck building contractor who became known for the reconstruction of the Marienkirche in Lübeck .

life and work

Together with Klaus Pieper he developed the Trautsch-Pieper process . Among other things, it was used in the reconstruction of St. Mary's Church. With the help of this method, roof trusses can be built with slag hollow blocks. It replaces the otherwise common wooden construction.

As a building contractor, Erich Trautsch took part in the restoration of important buildings in Lübeck. Using a process he developed himself, he stabilized the Holsten Gate in 1952 by drilling over 30 holes through the entire lower part of the building and pressing a special concrete into the masonry. The holes are still clearly visible on the Holsten Gate today. The towers of Lübeck Cathedral were stabilized in the same way .

In 1951 he developed the "Trautsch stone" which was made entirely from slag. In the same year he was the first to develop a prefabricated house , the “Trautsch House”. The “Trautsch House” was patented in 1952. It was offered in three variants.

In 1953 he invented the "Trautsch roof", which was used in residential construction. The further development with Klaus Pieper by modifying and reinforcing this roof with concrete ribs was then the Trautsch-Pieper process in 1956 , which was used in church and industrial buildings.

Since then, over 400 church roofs and towers have been built nationwide using the method developed by Erich Trautsch. In Lübeck, these include the Catholic Bonifatius Church designed by Emil Steffan and the Lutheran churches of St. Michael in Lübeck-Siems (deedicated in 2008), St. Thomas in Lübeck- St. Gertrud and St. Christophorus in Lübeck-Brandenbaum.

The friendship with Klaus Pieper also meant that Erich Trautsch received the order to build the Braunschweig city hall , the research reactor of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt and the research center of the Max Planck Society in Göttingen . Pieper took over the construction management for these construction projects with his engineering office.

Trautsch was also active in local politics. In 1946 he was an honorary senator for the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. From 1959 to 1962 he was a member of the Lübeck citizenship for the CDU .

In 1972 Trautsch handed over the management of the construction company to his two sons. Walter Trautsch took over the branches in the north, Alfred Trautsch the branches in the west and south of Germany. The Trautsch construction of Walter Trautsch had to declare bankruptcy in 1996.

family

Erich Trautsch was married to Marie-Louise Trautsch geb. Haid. From this marriage there were two sons and a daughter. The individual members of the Trautsch family now live in different European countries.

Collections

As a member of the advisory board of the Lübeck museums, Trautsch played a decisive role in the collection of the Lübeck silver exhibited today in the St. Anne's Museum . From 1960 until shortly before his death in 1985 he built up a large silver collection. In 2000, the Hanseatic City of Lübeck acquired parts of this collection as Lübeck silver treasure .

Another passion was paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. Parts of this collection of old masters can still be viewed in various museums today. A highlight of this collection is a painting by Willem van Aelst , the master's only signed and dated painting in private ownership. Another painting, monogrammed by Quiringh van Brekelenkam ( QVB 1655 ), had been loaned to the Central-Museum-Utrecht for many years .
