Erik Bosgraaf (born May 9, 1980 in Drachten , Netherlands ) is a Dutch recorder player and musicologist .

Life

Until 2005, Bosgraaf studied with Walter van Hauwe and Paul Leenhouts at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and at the same time completed a degree in musicology at the University of Utrecht , for which he received his diploma in 2006. Bosgraaf is active in almost all musical fields and also seeks connections to other art forms. He lives in Hilversum and teaches recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Act

In 2007 he brought out a 3-part CD box with music by the Dutch composer Jacob van Eyck (1589–1657) under the direction of the musicologist Thiemo Wind . This recording reached first place in the Dutch classical music charts. More than 25,000 copies of this CD box have been sold worldwide. During the 2011–2012 music season, the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) and the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles proposed him as an important young musician in the series "Rising Stars", which resulted in a tour of Europe.

Ensemble Cordevento

In 2006, Bosgraaf founded the Cordevento ensemble together with the guitarist Izhar Elias and the harpsichordist Alessandro Pianu , with the aim of bringing together contemporary and ancient music. From 2007 the trio concentrated exclusively on the music of the 17th century, which is located in the border area between popular music and art music. The trio's debut album was released in early 2012. In 2008 Cordevento made his debut as a baroque orchestra with a single line-up. The ensemble mainly concentrated on the repertoire of the 18th century. In 2009 the debut CD Bosgraafs appeared with a baroque orchestra with the recorder concertos by Antonio Vivaldi . In 2011 the second CD with transcriptions of recorder concerts by Johann Sebastian Bach was released.

With orchestra

Bosgraaf has performed with both chamber music ensembles and symphony orchestras. He has worked with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra ( Jaap van Zweden ), Nederlands Kamerorkest (Gordon Nikolic), Residentie Orkest ( Reinbert de Leeuw ), Holland Symfonia ( Otto Tausk ), het Noord-Nederlands Orkest (Johannes Leertouwer), Radio Kamer Orkest (Thierry Fischer, Andreas Delfs ) and Sinfonia Rotterdam (Alessandro Crudele).

jazz

Bosgraaf recorded three albums with the rock band Echos Minor and also played with saxophonist Yuri Honing , with Luc Houtkamp in the electro-free jazz group POW-Ensemble, with Sean Bergin , Dig d'Diz, Mary Oliver (viola) and Rozemarie Heggen ( double bass ).

New music and multimedia

Bosgraaf advocates performing new music for the recorder. In the meantime, many works have been composed for him, often in combination with electronics or multimedia. He works with composers such as Pierre Boulez , Anne Meredith, Willem Jeths, Ji Youn Kang, Jorrit Tamminga and Matijs de Roo. Bosgraaf also made his own arrangement of Dialogues de l'ombre double by Pierre Boulez, which the composer personally signed. Since 2002, Bosgraaf has been working intensively with the guitarist Izhar Elias, with whom he organizes theatrical multimedia projects. In 2007 her CD / DVD Big Eye (Phenom Records) was released. Elias and Bosgraaf work together with Paul & Menno de Nooijer and the Tonkünstler Jorrit Tamminga.

In 2008 Bosgraaf recorded all Fantasias for Flute Solo by Georg Philipp Telemann on CD, as well as the Partita BWV 1013 by Johann Sebastian Bach . In 2009 he also recorded all of the recorder sonatas by Georg Friedrich Händel with the harpsichordist Francesco Corti . In November 2011 Erik Bosgraaf was "Artist in residence" at the international Van Wassenaar Festival. In the music season 2011-2013 he is "Artist in residence" of Toonzaal, Den Bosch.
