Erik Johan Herseth (born July 9, 1892 in Aker ; † January 28, 1993 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian sailor , opera singer ( baritone ) and officer .

Erik Herseth, a member of the Kongelig Norsk Seilforening was in 1920 in Antwerp at the Olympic Games in the 10-meter class after the International Rule of 1907 Olympic champion . He was the skipper of the Eleda , which was the only boat in its class to participate. The Eleda , whose crew consisted of Ingar Nielsen , Gunnar Jamvold , Peter Jamvold , Claus Juell and Ole Sørensen and Sigurd Holter , was enough to reach the goal to win the gold medal in two races due to lack of competition.

In addition to his sailing career, Herseth was a well-known opera singer , his voice pitch was baritone . After initially working in Oslo, he sang at the Vienna Volksoper from 1924 to 1928 . Parallel to his engagement, he worked as a correspondent for the tabloid Aftonbladet , for which he interviewed famous personalities such as Josephine Baker . Herseth was also an officer in the Norwegian Air Force and served with the Norwegian forces in Sweden during World War II . After the war he worked as a singing teacher, art dealer and painter under the pseudonym L. Smith . His daughter Astri Herseth sang at the Norwegian State Opera for several years .
