Erika Espeseth Skarbø (born June 12, 1987 in Ålesund , Norway ) is a Norwegian former soccer player . The goalkeeper had a long contract with the Norwegian club Arna-Bjørnar and played for the Norwegian national team , with which she took part in the 2011 World Cup.

Career

Skarbø went through all youth national teams. In 2003 she became vice European champion with the U-19s, but in 2004 she was eliminated with Norway in the group stage. In 2005 she reached the final of the Nordic Cup with the U-21 team . On August 28, 2005, she played with both the U-19s and the U-21 teams against Sweden, lost 1-0 with the U-19s and won 2-0 with the U-21s. With the U-23 team, she was third in the Nordic Cup in 2007.

In 2007 she was in the squad for the 2007 Women's World Cup in China , but was not used. She made her first international match on March 5, 2008 at the Algarve Cup in a 4-2 win against Italy . After the resignation of Bente Nordby , she became a regular goalkeeper and made a total of 13 A-internationals in 2008, all four of which were at the Olympic Games in Beijing , where her team lost to Brazil in the quarter-finals . Due to an operation on her wrist, she was unable to play in 2009 and could not take part in the European Championships in Finland .

She lost her regular goalkeeper post to Ingrid Hjelmseth and made only two U-23 internationals in 2010. In 2011 she was only used twice in the senior team before the nomination of the World Cup squad, but was appointed to the World Cup squad for the 2011 World Cup and came on as a substitute in the test match against Germany in the second half. It was not used at the World Cup at first. In the last group game, she was substituted on at half-time for the injured Ingrid Hjelmseth . Since Norway lost the game against Australia , the World Cup ended for Norway in the preliminary round for the first time. After that, it was not reinstated.
