Erin Yungblut (born June 18, 1993 ) is a former Canadian biathlete .

Athletic career

Erin Yungblut made her international debut at the North American Championships in the 2012 Summer Biathlon in Canmore , where she was sixth in the community and third in the junior ranking in the roller-ski pursuit . At the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2013 in Obertilliach , she was 47th of the individual and qualified as 58th of the sprint just for the pursuit race, in which she was 51st. A year later in Presque Isle the placements 36 in individual and sprint, 42 in the pursuit and with Sarah Beaudry and Julia Ransom came ninth in the relay. Shortly before, she also started at the 2014 open biathlon European championships in Nové Město na Moravě . Yungblut was used in the individual races among the juniors and was 51st in the individual, 27th in the sprint and 46th in the pursuit. At the Canadian Championships in 2013 she won silver behind Rose-Marie Côté and bronze in the pursuit and individual in the junior races. It was also the North American Championships where she won silver in the sprint and bronze in the pursuit.

Yungblut has started with women in the performance area since 2013 . She competed in her first race here in Martell in the IBU Cup and was 68. Shortly afterwards, in Osrblie with Julia Ransom, Claude Godbout and Emma Lodge, she missed a first podium place with just one place in the relay as fourth. In addition, she won her first points as 18th of the individual and achieved her best result so far in the second highest racing series. The first international women's championships were the 2014 European Championships, where she was appointed to the Canadian women's national team for the relay after the individual races in the junior women's division. With Audrey Vaillancourt , Emma Lodge and Emma Lunder , she came in 13th and last place with the lapped Canadian season.

On May 18, 2019, Yungblut announced her retirement as a biathlete.

Health problems

During her career, Yungblut suffered from "RED-S" syndrome. The relative energy deficiency in sport in women is a consequence of eating disorders and is influenced by the level of hormones in the blood and the menstrual cycle . After she had to undergo surgery after a shoulder injury in 2018, Yungblut decided to take a proactive approach to her illness. With the help of her trainers, nutritionists, psychologists and her family and friends, she managed to combat these effectively. Nevertheless, she ended her career as a competitive athlete shortly afterwards.
