Erinna King

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erinna König (born August 19, 1947 in Warstein ) is a German painter who expands the color to (partial) objects found, rarely paints on canvas. She thereby expands her pictorial possibilities: z. B. abstract appearances take on importance.

Life

Erinna König studied from 1967 to 1976 at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf with Teo Otto (stage art), Dieter Roth and Joseph Beuys . Influenced by anti-authoritarian actions, Fluxus and the “ expanded concept of art ” of her Professor Beuys, she tried to combine art and politics in the 1970s. She was politically active, headed the student parliament at the art academy, ran the "Büro Olympia" at Neubrückstrasse 14 with Henning Brandis, Chris Reinecke and Jörg Immendorff from 1970 to 1972 and was co-founder of the "Red Cell Art" in 1970. In 1971 she became a master student of Joseph Beuys and in 1973 switched to the film class of lecturer Ole John Povlsen, which she helped found.

From 2006 to 2008 Erinna König was a substitute professor at the University of Kassel . She lives and works in Düsseldorf.

Until the beginning of the 1970s, minimalist and sometimes conceptual works were created. During these years Erinna König experimented with photo and film, as well as the means of expression of Pop Art . This phase ended in 1979/1980 with group work in large photos Diazentrale-Ost , exhibited in the Denise René and Hans Meyer gallery in Düsseldorf. Influenced by longer stays in Crete and Africa, she found her way back to a minimalist expression from 1981 onwards, with finds from bulky waste from big cities. Erinna König is considered a representative of Rhenish post-minimalism.
