Eriolarynx is a plant genus of the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It consists of three species that are common in Argentina and Bolivia .

description

Vegetative characteristics

The Eriolarynx styles are 0.5 to 2 m high bushes whose stem axis are covered with 15 to 20 mm long spikes or small trees m from 5 to 7 m in height and a trunk diameter of 0.2 to 0.5. The leaf blades of the leaves are broad or narrowly ovate, hairless, bald, finely or tomentose. The trichomes are simple and consist of one to five cells or glandular and have a two to four cell stalk and a single cell or a multicellular head consisting of 8 to 20 cells. The leaf blade is either (6.5) 9 to 16 (24) cm long or only (1.8) 3 to 7 (10) cm long. The leaf stalks are (2) 7 to 12 (16) mm in length.

blossoms

The flowers stand individually or in groups of two to four in the armpits. They are hanging, not odorous, and some are very noticeable. The petioles are usually finely hairy or almost hairless, curved and (9) 15 to 32 mm long. The calyx is initially urn-shaped in the bud, later bell-shaped, five-lobed or short five-lobed, 5 to 7 mm long. The crown is bell-shaped-wheel-shaped or almost funnel-shaped-wheel-shaped and five-lobed. The corolla lobes are wider than long, or longer than wide. The corolla tube is 1.5 to 2 (3) times longer than the corolla lobes, the total length is (9) 11 to 26 (34) mm. The outside of the crown is colored purple, the inside is whitish with greenish dots or monochrome purple-violet or blue-violet.

Slightly above the starting point of the stamens there is an approximately 2 mm wide strip that is densely covered with trichomes. The anthers are fixed to the back of the base, (1.6) 2 to 4 (4.6) mm long and 1/2 or 1/3 as long as the stamens. These are unevenly long, hairless and broadened at the point of attachment near the base of the crown. The pollen grains are tricolporate (provided with three compound openings) and about 24 to 25 µm in size.

The ovary is pear-shaped, including the nectaries , well defined and slightly protruding. The stylus is terminal, the very short scar is saddle-shaped, depressed, barely two-lobed, moist and unicellular papillose .

Fruits and seeds

The fruits are spherical or almost spherical berries with a diameter of 9 to 15 mm, they contain a large number of seeds . The pericarp is juicy, fused with the placenta , yellowish and richly mixed with stone cells . The calyx, which enlarges to 15 mm, partially or almost completely surrounds the berry. The seeds are kidney-shaped, strongly indented and about 2 mm long, the embryo is curved or curved in a circle, the cotyledons are almost as long as the rest of the embryo. Endosperm is rather abundant.

Other specifications

The base chromosome number is .

Occurrence

The two tree-like growing species Eriolarynx lorentzii and Eriolarynx iochromoides occur in the subtropical cloud forests of the Sierra de Aconquija in northwestern Argentina at altitudes between 1,000 and 2,000 m. The shrub-growing species Eriolarynx fasciculata grows on dry, stony slopes of the Bolivian Andes between 2,000 and 3,000 m altitude.

Systematics

The genus consists of three types:

The type species is Eriolarynx lorentzii .
