The Erlöserkirche is a Protestant church in Adenau , a town in the Ahrweiler district in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

With the Erlöserkirche Adenau, the first Protestant church in the Hocheifel and Ahreifel area was built in 1913/14 . Before that, the services had been held in a neighboring prayer room.

The first pastor of the parish, Count Emmanuel von Korff (1883–1945), was the initiator for the construction of the Church of the Redeemer. The property had already been bought in 1904 by the Adenauer School Association on behalf of the parish. Pastor von Korff made contact with Ernst von Mirbach , the Empress's chief steward, and Franz Schwechten , the architect of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin, both of whom were involved in many church building projects through the Evangelical Church Building Association . Schwechten, who was in Adenau for the first time in September 1911, presented the first drafts just five weeks later. The foundation stone was laid on June 6, 1913; the inauguration took place on April 26, 1914.

Despite the “Alliance Schwechten – Mirbach”, the imperial family had little influence on the construction of the church, which was only expressed in individual pieces of equipment, such as the portal with the cross carved in bronze.

Restoration in 1988

In August 1988 the Church of the Redeemer was placed under monument protection. It is regarded as "a testimony to the Prussian-influenced church building under the influence of the so-called Heimatschutz movement " and as an "important late work of the Berlin architect Privy Councilor Franz von Schwechten". In the same year - after the renovations in 1954 and 1970 - it was given the original Art Nouveau painting, which had been covered by two layers of paint, for its third fundamental exterior and interior renovation . This enabled the church interior to be largely restored to its original state from 1914.

organ

In 1914, the year the church was completed, Paul Faust created the organ with eleven sounding stops , divided into two manuals and a pedal . There are also two transmissions in the pedal . The organ has cone chests and pneumatic action . The instrument stands in a round arch niche and has a central round tower. This is followed on both sides by the free pipe prospect , which is stabilized by an ornate crossbar. In 1988 the organ was restored by the Stockmann brothers . The disposition is as follows:
