The Ermesgraben is an almost two kilometer long, northern and left tributary of the Moselle in the city of Schweich in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Trier-Saarburg . It has the water code number 267152.

The Ermesgraben rises in the city of Schweich at an altitude of 141  m above sea level. NHN in a green strip southwest of Bahnhofstrasse .

The moat initially flows, accompanied by thick wood, in a south-westerly direction through the green strip past the Villa Mentis . After almost two hundred meters, it is strengthened on its right by a second source branch coming from the north. The unified ditch now runs in a southerly direction through the new housing estate Ermesgraben and then crosses Schweicher Straße ( K 35 ) and passes the boundary between Schweich and Issel .

It then crosses under the federal highway 53 and finally flows into the boundary of the Schweich district of Issel above the sports boat harbor at an altitude of 123  m above sea level. NHN at Mosel-KM 179 from the north and from the left into the Moselle coming from the east .

The 1.710 km long course of the Ermesgraben ends about 18 meters below its source, so it has a mean bed gradient of about 11 ‰.

Catchment area

The 0.766 km² catchment area of ​​the Ermesgraben lies in the Föhrener Kuppenland and the Trier Moselle valley . It is drained through it via the Moselle and the Rhine to the North Sea.

The catchment area borders

  • in the east to that of the Föhrenbach , which flows into the Moselle
  • and in the west to that of the Merzbach , which is also a tributary of the Moselle.
