Ernst Friedrich Gilg
Ernst Friedrich Gilg (born January 12, 1867 in Obereggenen near Schliengen , Baden, † October 11, 1933 in Berlin ) was a German botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Gilg ". His wife Charlotte Gilg-Benedict (1872–1936) was also a botanist.
Live and act
Gilg was curator at the Botanical Museum Berlin . Together with Adolf Engler , he was the editor of the 9th and 10th editions of Syllabus of Plant Families (1921). Together with J. Perkins, he wrote the chapter "Monimiaceae" for the work The Plant Kingdom by Engler. For the work The Natural Plant Families by Engler and Carl Prantl , he worked on numerous plant families.
Ernst Friedrich Gilg died in Berlin in 1933 at the age of 66 and was buried in the Dahlem forest cemetery. The grave has not been preserved.
Honors
The genera Gilgiochloa Pilg were named in his honor . from the plant family of the sweet grasses (Poaceae), Gilgia Pax from the family of Hundsgiftgewächse (Apocynaceae) and Gilgiodaphne Domke from the family of Thymelaeaceae named (Thymelaeaceae).
