Ernie Furtado

Ernest H. "Ernie" Furtado (born March 28, 1923 in Taunton (Massachusetts) , † July 12, 1995 in Amagansett (New York) ) was an American jazz musician ( double bass , composition ) of mainstream jazz .

Live and act

In the early 1950s, Furtado played in the Cy Coleman Jazz Trio, with which the first recordings were made ( Piano Patterns , 1953), and in the following years also in the Don Elliott Quartet, Eddie Costa Trio, John Mehegan Quartet and the Bernard Peiffer Trio. With Elliott and with Costas Trio (with Rolf Kühn and Dick Johnson ) he performed at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1957 . In the 1960s he played a. a. with Chuck Wayne ( Tapestra , 1963) and with Lainie Kazan on their TV show, in the 1980s with Max Morath and Peter Dean . During this time he performed with the singer Charlie Cochran as well as with Joe Derise and Jim Mitchell in New York jazz clubs . In the field of jazz he was involved in 28 recording sessions between 1956 and 1984. a. also with Morgana King , Janet Brace , Bob Corwin , Mat Mathews and Hal Serra . He also appeared in the Broadway plays Copper and Brass (1957) and Lenny (1972).
