Ernst-Joachim Hickl (born January 18, 1931 in Nuremberg , † January 16, 2010 in Hamburg ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Live and act

Hickl was born in Nuremberg on 1931. He studied medicine at the Universities of Erlangen , Munich and Freiburg . During his studies in Erlangen he became a member of the Bubenreuth fraternity in the winter semester of 1949/50 . After receiving his doctorate in 1955 , he first completed training at the Physiological Institute in Munich under Richard Wagner . In 1958 he moved to the First Women's Clinic at the University of Munich, where he received his training as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics under Werner Bickenbach and Josef Zander . Hickl completed his habilitation in 1965 and was appointed professor in 1971 . In 1972 he went to Hamburg , where he succeeded Hanns Dietel as head of the gynecological clinic and midwifery training institute in Finkenau until his professional retirement in 1996.

Hickl was chairman of the Hamburg Obstetrical Society , 1984 chairman of the Northwest German Society for Gynecology (NGGG), from 1988 to 1990 he was President of the German Society for Gynecology and organized its first all-German congress in Hamburg in 1990 . The DGGG and the NGGG later made him an honorary member .

The focus of Hickl's scientific work was on pregnancy pathology and perinatology . He was committed to lowering maternal and newborn mortality . The inclusion of the increasing forensic problems made him a sought-after expert in the field of assessing damage claims. As chairman of the Medical Law Working Group, Hickl worked with legal scholars to develop recommendations and guidelines for avoiding medical malpractice .

Ernst-Joachim Hickl died in January 2010 two days before his 79th birthday in Hamburg.
