Ernst-Joachim Meusel

Ernst-Joachim Meusel (born February 4, 1932 in Magdeburg ; † November 21, 2006 in Munich ) was a German lawyer and science manager.

Life

As the son of the higher regional judge Dr. Ernst Meusel and his wife Gertrud Lehmann attended the Domgymnasium Naumburg and the Heese-Gymnasium in Berlin-Steglitz .

From 1950 to 1954 he studied political science and law at the universities in Berlin and Bonn . In 1958 he obtained his doctorate in Cologne . iur. He obtained the assessor exam in Düsseldorf in 1960. From 1962 to 1964 he was employed as a legal advisor at the DEA coal mines Zeche Graf Bismarck in Gelsenkirchen .

From 1964 to 1968 he was managing director of the Society for Nuclear Process Engineering in Jülich . From 1968 to 1997 he was managing director in the board of directors at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics . From 1969 to 1970 he was the first chairman of the Working Group of Large Research Institutions (AGF), today's Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers .

From 1985 to 1987 he worked on the AGF board of directors. From 1991 to 1997 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer . He also took on the position of editor of the Journal for Science Law and the Handbook for Science Law. During the reform of the science law for higher education, he acquired the reputation of a "reform critic" through his in-depth criticism (see EJ Meusel, Alte Hüte aufürstet. DUZ 14/2000, p. 7).

He was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class and legal Knights of St John . He was married to Eva-Maria Schmidt since 1957.
