Ernst-Otto Krasemann

Ernst-Otto Krasemann (born September 30, 1923 in Schwerin ; † August 28,  2014 in Wedel ) was a German doctor and university lecturer .

Life

Krasemann grew up in Schwerin. In 1942 he passed his Abitur and then began studying medicine at the Berlin- based Medical Academy of the Air Force. He took the physics exams in Würzburg . Before he could complete his state examination, Krasemann was drafted into military service and served in Italy . There he was captured by the US armed forces . After the Second World War he moved to Wedel . He continued his studies at the University of Hamburg , passed the state examination and submitted his doctoral thesis on “Tumors in the left atrium”. He then worked briefly at the General Hospital in Hamburg-Langenhorn and then as an assistant doctor at the hospital in the Hamburg district of Rissen . There he met his future wife, whom he married in 1956. From 1964 he was head of the specialist medical center of the State Insurance Institute of the City of Hamburg, and from 1977 to 1986 he was also head of the department for “Social Hygiene and Welfare” at the Hamburg Health Authority. From 1972, Krasemann held guest lectures at the University of Hamburg on the topics of prevention, rehabilitation, social insurance and spa treatment. In 1979 he completed his habilitation (title: "Heart attack rehabilitation") and from the same year was a private lecturer in social medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hamburg. In 1985 he took up a professorship for social medicine there. Krasemann was a co-founder of the Hamburg Society for Prevention and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases and was its chairman from 1971 to 1992. He played a key role in the development of the “Hamburg Model of Cardiac Rehabilitation”. In 1994 Krasemann was awarded the Peter Beckmann Medal by the German Society for Prevention and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases (DGPR).

In his scientific work, Krasemann dealt with the subjects of passive smoking, early detection examinations, prevention of the use of illegal drugs, rheumatism and cancer, and heart attack rehabilitation.

In his place of residence Wedel, Krasemann was chairman of an association from 2001 that campaigned for the reconstruction of the tower of the church on Roland, which was destroyed in 1943 during the Second World War.
