Ernst August von Hammerstein

Ernst August Freiherr von Hammerstein (born August 17, 1839 in Hildesheim , † February 16, 1902 in Thaers Garten ) was an officer and member of the German Reichstag .

origin

His parents were the privy councilor Karl Hans Wilhelm Ernst vom Hammerstein (* August 1, 1782; † January 29, 1867) from the Hammerstein family and his second wife Adelheid von Oldershausen (* March 20, 1805; † December 27, 1886). Lieutenant General Hans Georg von Hammerstein-Equord (1771–1841) was his uncle.

Life

Hammerstein attended grammar school in Hildesheim, the Royal Hanoverian Cadet Corps , the University of Göttingen and the Mariabrunn Forest Academy in Austria. In 1857 he became a lieutenant in the Hanoverian 3rd Infantry Regiment and in 1858 a prime lieutenant . During the war against Prussia , Hammerstein took part in the battle of Langensalza as an officer in the Hanoverian army in 1866 , was in the personal service of King George V until 1871 and then a private citizen .

From 1898 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency ( Gifhorn , Celle , Peine , Burgdorf ) and the German-Hanover party . The mandate ended with his death.

He married Adele Göhring on January 18, 1871 (* May 19, 1851 - May 14, 1891). The couple had several children:

After the death of his first wife, he married Melanie Göhring on September 15, 1896 (* October 10, 1854).
