Ernst Blankenhorn (born June 14, 1853 in Müllheim ; † May 19, 1917 there ) was a winery owner, mayor and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Blankenhorn came from a winemaking family and attended secondary schools in Müllheim and Freiburg , the Karlsruhe Polytechnic and the Universities of Bonn and Leipzig , where he received his doctorate. In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Corps Franconia in 1872 . He was Rittmeister of the Landwehr cavalry. From 1890 to 1899 he was mayor of Müllheim and, after his resignation, an honorary citizen of his hometown, as well as an honorary citizen of the spa town of Badenweiler . He was also a member of the Baden Landtag (II. Baden Chamber) from 1895. From 1887 to 1890 and from 1893 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Baden 4 Lörrach , Müllheim and the National Liberal Party . Both mandates ended with his death.

In the Reichstag in 1901 and 1908/09 he was chairman of the commission for the consultation of the wine law, 1903/04 chairman of the commission for the consultation of the phylloxera law, and also a member of the customs tariff and trade treaty commissions. He was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen , the Knight's Cross of the Order Berthold the First and the Royal Prussian Crown Order III. Class.
