Ernst Fromm (doctor)

Ernst Fromm (born March 3, 1917 in Altona , Schleswig-Holstein province , † April 2, 1992 in Hamburg ) was a German doctor. From 1959 to 1973 he was President of the German Medical Association and from 1965 to 1967 President of the European Medical Association (CPME).

Life

After graduating from high school, Fromm studied medicine at the University of Hamburg and the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . In 1933 he joined the Marine SA , a year later he switched to the SS . From 1939 he did his military service, in 1942 he received his license to practice medicine and obtained his doctorate as Dr. med. in Hamburg until the end of the war he was senior physician in the reserve. Due to dysentery and diphtheria , he could not work as a ward doctor , so he became a bacteriologist and laboratory doctor. Since 1966 he was an honorary professor for contemporary problems of the medical profession at the University of Hamburg.

Fromm was a co-founder of the Marburger Bund and from 1949 chief physician of the bacteriological-serological department of the newly founded General Hospital Harburg . From 1959 to 1973 he was President of the German Medical Association . He became a member of the Military Medical Advisory Board of the Bundeswehr . Fromm's actions during the time of National Socialism caused controversy when asked about the German medical profession to excuse the medical experiments in concentration camps .
