Ernst Gutzeit

Ernst Wilhelm Heinrich Gutzeit (born July 5, 1863 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † March 21, 1927 presumably in Halle ) was a German agriculture teacher and professor at the universities in Königsberg and Halle . His specialties were plant diseases , agricultural bacteriology and dairy farming .

Life

Ernst Gutzeit was the evangelical son of the businessman Friedrich August Gutzeit and his wife, Wilhelmine, née Müller , who died early . After attending the old town high school in Königsberg, which he left in 1883 after taking his Matura , he began studying natural sciences in Königsberg and Berlin . In 1889 he was promoted to Dr. phil. doctorate (see publications). He dedicated his dissertation to the lecturer at the university's medical faculty, Paul Michelson , who received his doctorate in 1868 in Königsberg with his thesis on the histiology of the Vater-Pacini bodies . In his vita, Gutzeit particularly highlighted the zoologists Franz Eilhard Schulze (Berlin) and Carl Chun (Königsberg) among his teachers . In 1891 Ernst Gutzeit took his exams as senior teacher and until 1896 studied agricultural chemistry and agriculture and worked as an assistant at the research institute for dairy beings in Kleinhof- Tapiau in East Prussia. This was followed by his habilitation in Königsberg in 1896 with a thesis on agriculture, which was also the result of the award work of von Hoverbeck's travel grant ; At the same time, he studied practical work on various agricultural estates in East Prussia before he became an assistant at the agricultural- physiological laboratory and the agricultural botanical garden of the University of Königsberg. In 1899 he was given an extraordinary professorship for plant cultivation, agricultural bacteriology and plant diseases and in 1901 he was head of the department for plant diseases at the university's experimental field. From 1906 he was given leave of absence from there to the Imperial Biological Institute for Agriculture and Forestry in Dahlem to carry out scientific work. His last post took him to the University of Halle in 1910 . Initially charged with holding lectures on dairy farming, he took over the management of the dairy laboratory there in 1915 .

Ernst Gutzeit was married to Hedwig Wegener , the daughter of the manor owner Otto Wegener on Bischdorf (Polish: Sątopy-Samulewo) in East Prussia and his wife Marianne, née. Wolff and granddaughter of Franz Anton Niemeyer . In the 1910s and 1920s she took part in several silent films and published short stories and fairy tales she wrote herself. Her younger brother was the director and film actor Paul Wegener .
