from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Hugo Eduard Lorenz-Murowana (born October 27, 1872 in Murowana-Goslin , † April 22, 1954 in Berlin-Neukölln ) was a German restorer as well as landscape , still life and marine painter .

Ernst Hugo Lorenz-Murowana was born in 1872 as Ernst Hugo Lorenz in Murowana-Goslin, a place about 30 kilometers north of the city of Posen . He studied with Viktor Paul Mohn at the Royal Art School in Berlin. After graduating, he lived in Berlin and worked as a freelance painter and also as a restorer. He was a member of the Reich Association of Fine Artists in Germany and later in the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts in Berlin.

Most of his works were oil paintings. The subjects were nocturnal cityscapes in the manner of the "moonlight painters", landscapes, seascapes , detailed interiors and still lifes. He found his motifs in Pomerania , the Mark Brandenburg and on the Baltic Sea as well as in Berlin and Potsdam. His evocative depictions of the interplay between light, air and water were remarkable.

Since the place of birth is in today's Greater Poland Voivodeship , Lorenz-Murowana is often incorrectly referred to as a Polish painter.
