Ernst Julius Georg von dem Knesebeck (born December 8, 1809 in Landesbergen , † September 30, 1869 in Worms ) from the House of Corvin was a Hanoverian diplomat , writer and lieutenant general .

Life

origin

His parents were the Hanoverian Major General Friedrich August Wilhelm von dem Knesebeck (* June 18, 1775 - December 10, 1842) and his wife Friederike Amalie, née von Bothmer , (* June 19, 1781 - November 27, 1853) from the Landesbergen house.

Military career

Knesebeck entered the Hanoverian infantry at a very young age , in which he became second lieutenant in 1824 . Then he came to the General Staff and went into the diplomatic service. In 1847 he became chargé d'affaires in Munich and from 1848 to 1865 was the Hanoverian mission chief. From there he went to Vienna until the Kingdom of Hanover was annexed by Prussia in 1866 . He withdrew into private life, was accepted into the Association of the Prussian Army in 1868 and died on September 30, 1869 on a trip to Worms.

He married Agnes von Linsingen on June 26, 1846 in Hanover (* November 20, 1820, † December 31, 1893). The couple had the following children:

His son Bodo was vice-chief master of ceremonies under Kaiser Wilhelm II , chairman of the people's sanctuary association of the Red Cross and deputy chairman of the German Central Committee for Combating Tuberculosis .
