Ernst Julius von Magusch

Ernst Julius von Magusch (* 1734 in Silesia ; † May 8, 1815 in Stargard in Pomerania ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He came from a Silesian family that received the Bohemian nobility on September 3, 1729 through Caspar von Magusch. His father was Georg Ernst von Magusch (1715–1789), Privy Finance Councilor in the General Directorate and Director of Excise and Customs in Berlin.

Military career

Magusch came on September 14, 1753 in the infantry regiment "von Anhalt-Dessau" of the Prussian army . During the Seven Years' War he was wounded in the foot near Kolin and in the leg near Zorndorf . Magusch also fought in the Battle of Torgau and in the battles near Strehlen, Wittenberg and Leutmannsdorf (wounded in the knee) and in the sieges of Prague and Dresden. In 1763 he was promoted to prime lieutenant .

After the war, it was not until June 21, 1777 that he was promoted to staff captain. On June 30, 1778 he became captain and company commander . Magusch took part as such in the War of the Bavarian Succession and became major on December 23, 1789 . In the Polish campaign of 1794/95 he was used in the siege of Warsaw and the battles near Selze and Rawka . For Rawka he received the order Pour le Mérite on June 8, 1794 . On June 29, 1795 he was appointed commander of the "von Pirch" infantry regiment. On June 23, 1798 he became a lieutenant colonel and on June 21, 1799 a colonel . Magusch celebrated his 50th anniversary of service on September 14, 1803. During the Fourth Coalition War he was captured by the French in the battle near Weimar and was brought to Chalons-sur-Marne . In 1808 he returned from captivity. “In mind of the long and faithful service you have rendered to the state,” he was appointed major general on September 5, 1809, but like many others received only half a salary . He retired on September 23, 1813 and died on May 8, 1815 in Stargard.
