Ernst Kunik

Ernst Eduard Kunik also Kunick ( Russian Арист Аристович Куник Arist Aristowitsch Kunik , scientific. Transliteration Arist Aristovič Kunik * 14. October 1814 in Gränowitz in Jawor , † January 18 . Jul / 30th January  1899 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a Russian-German historian and ethnologist .

Life

Kunik's father, Ernst Friedrich Kunik, was a landowner. After attending high school in Liegnitz and the University of Breslau and University of Berlin , Kunik went to Moscow in 1839 to study Russian history. In 1844 he was a member of the Academy of Sciences , later the Swedish Academy of Sciences and in 1888 the Danish Academy of Sciences . He became the chief curator of the Hermitage , was a member of the Archaeographic Commission and its editor-in-chief for foreign files. Kunik had been a councilor since 1850 and became a real councilor in 1864 . Since 1860 he was an honorary member of the Estonian Scholarly Society in Dorpat . In 1876 he received an honorary doctorate in Russian history from Kiev University .
