Ernst Preczang

Ernst Preczang (born January 16, 1870 in Winsen an der Luhe , Lower Saxony; † July 22, 1949 in Sarnen , Switzerland) was an author of the labor movement .

Life

The son of a gendarme received an apprenticeship as a printer in Buxtehude . As a journeyman on the Walz , he began to write poetry. Since 1900 Preczang has been able to work full-time as a writer thanks to an inheritance. He first wrote dramas, utility poetry and short stories and also tried the ballad form. From 1904 to 1919 he was editor of the social democratic magazine "In free hours", a kind of left counterpart to entertainment papers like the gazebo . 1920 to 1921 editor of the newspaper supplement "Volk und Zeit".

Ernst Preczang was one of the founders of the " Gutenberg Book Guild ", of which he was chief editor from 1924 to 1927. Preczang's novels were also published by the Verlag der Büchergilde. The committed social democrat left Germany after Hitler came to power in 1933 and lived in Switzerland until his death.
