Ernst Saalfrank (born October 12, 1939 - † June 16, 2015 ) was a German football player .

Career

Saalfrank began playing soccer at the local sports club in Groß Oesingen in 1952 . He played for Eintracht Braunschweig from 1961 , first a year with the amateurs, then from 1962 with the professionals, where he played 13 times in the league and scored two goals. In the last year of the old first-class league era, 1962/63 , the blue-yellows took third place in the north with the two newcomers from the amateur team, Manfred Wuttich and Ernst Saalfrank. Thus, Eintracht, trained by student Hannes Vogel , was nominated as the third representative of the north for the new performance concentration of the Bundesliga starting in the 1963/64 round. The man from Groß Oesingen made his debut in the league on August 26, 1962 in a 1: 3 home defeat against VfB Oldenburg. He scored one goal each against VfL Osnabrück and Altona 93. Outstanding for the former amateur was the 2-2 home draw on January 6, 1963 in front of 23,000 spectators in the stadium on Hamburger Straße against the northern series champion Hamburger SV . Together with Klaus Blumenberg , Wuttich, Jürgen Moll and Klaus Gerwien, he formed the Eintracht attack on half-left.

In the first year of the Bundesliga , 1963/64 , he played eleven games under coach Helmuth Johannsen . He made his debut in the Bundesliga as a half-forward on September 21, 1963 in a 3-0 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt. In March 1964 he ran within four days of the two home games against 1. FC Saarbrücken (3: 1) and Hertha BSC (1: 1) on the side of Peter Kaack and Joachim Bäse in the runner row. In his second Bundesliga year 1964/65, he came on October 24, 1964 in a 2: 3 away defeat at 1. FC Nuremberg on another use. Then in 1965 he moved to the regional league for VfL Wolfsburg .

There he came to 109 games in the Football Regionalliga Nord , in which he scored nine goals. He and Manfred Wuttich had switched to the green and white team. In the first year VfL finished eighth under coach Ludwig Lachner and Saalfrank had scored four goals in 30 regional league appearances. From the 1966/67 season Imre Farkaszinski took over as coach in Wolfsburg. Fourth place was achieved with Hermann-Dieter Bellut and Fredi Rotermund . In the third Wolfsburg year, 1967/68 , the eleven around Wilfried Kemmer and Wolf-Rüdiger Krause just missed their entry into the Bundesliga promotion round as third. Saalfrank had played in all 32 competitive games. When Wolfsburg actually moved into the BL promotion round as runner-up in 1969/70 , he was only active in six games in the association round. In his last season 1970/71 he was no longer used.

After completing his active career, Saalfrank coached the VfL Wolfsburg amateur team. He also coached football clubs in Groß Oesingen and Wesendorf .
