Manfred Wuttich (born January 26, 1941 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † August 1, 2018 in Braunschweig ) was a German football player . The striker played 24 Bundesliga games for Eintracht Braunschweig between 1963 and 1965 , scoring twelve goals.

Career

Manfred Wuttich began playing football at SV Groß-Winnigstedt in the Wolfenbüttel district . From there he moved to the amateur team of Eintracht Braunschweig in 1961. Before the last season of the old first-class Oberliga Nord, 1962/63, he was accepted into the blue-yellow contract team with Ernst Saalfrank . It was about third place in the north for Braunschweig, since the new Bundesliga was introduced for the 1963/64 season and three places were provided for the Oberliga Nord. Even before the start of the round, he was used in the DFB Cup on July 28, 1962 in the away game against 1. FC Saarbrücken for the first time in the Eintracht league team.

On August 19, 1962, the attacker, who was strong in duels and in the end, made his debut under coach Hans-Georg Vogel in a 1-0 win in the away game against VfB Lübeck in the World Cup system at that time on the right wing, in the Oberliga Nord . In the 1962/63 season Wuttich completed 27 games and scored 14 goals. As a two-time goalscorer he distinguished himself in the games against Hildesheim (3: 1), Bergedorf 85 (3: 0) and Holstein Kiel (5: 1). When Eintracht had conquered third place for the first time after the 3-1 victory on February 3, 1963 against SV Arminia Hannover , he had contributed a goal on the right wing. By remaining at this rank until the final day, Eintracht qualified for the football Bundesliga introduced for the 1963/64 season . The goal he scored on February 10, 1963 against the main competitor for the Bundesliga qualification Hannover 96, when he was able to place an assist by Klaus Gerwien in the network from a short distance, is unforgettable . Without this goal in the key game for third place, Eintracht would probably not have made it into the Bundesliga. In addition to Wuttich and Gerwien, the players Helmut Hosung , Jürgen Moll , Klaus Blumenberg and Gerhard Schrader were also used in the attack .

In the Bundesliga, Helmuth Johannsen took over as coach of the "Löwen". On the sixth match day, October 5, 1963, Wuttich made his debut at home against FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. The "Royal Blues" had come to the stadium on Hamburger Strasse with 9: 1 points. In front of 32,000 spectators, Wuttich scored two goals for Eintracht's 4-3 home win. Gerwien, Moll, Wuttich, Hosung and the new arrival Hans-Georg Dulz formed the attack formation. On the following matchday, October 12, two Wuttich goals at Hertha BSC led to a 2-1 win for Braunschweig. In his first Bundesliga season, he came to 17 missions in which he scored eight goals. In the second Bundesliga season 1964/65 he was only used in seven games, scoring four goals. Personally outstanding were his two goals in the 2-0 victory on November 7, 1964 in the home game against Hamburger SV . Due to the three reinforcements at the beginning of the round with Dieter Krafczyk , Erich Maas and Lothar Ulsaß, as well as injuries, he was no longer part of the regular cast and ended his activity with Eintracht Braunschweig in the summer of 1965.

It is said that he had offers from HSV, Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart, but he joined VfL Wolfsburg in the Regionalliga Nord for the 1965/66 season , where he was simultaneously offered career opportunities at the Volkswagenwerk.

In his first season in 1965/66 , Wolfsburg finished eighth under coach Ludwig Lachner , and Wuttich had proven his scoring threat in 27 missions with 20 goals. For his debut at VfL in the then second-rate regional league, he scored four goals in a 6-0 home win against Bergedorf 85 on September 5, 1965. He repeated this at the start of the 1966/67 season . Wuttich scored four goals in a 6-2 away win against Bremer SV on August 14, 1966 . Under coach Imre Farkaszinski the "wolves" reached fourth place. Injuries led to several breaks in his third year at Wolfsburg, 1967/68 , so that the attacker was only able to play eleven games with three goals in the exciting fight for a place in the Bundesliga promotion round.

In the summer of 1968 Manfred Wuttich ended his playing career at VfL Wolfsburg after a total of 61 regional league appearances with 40 goals. He had played his last regional league game on January 28, 1968 in a 1-0 home win against Altona 93 on the side of attacking colleagues Hans Klitzke, Wolf-Rüdiger Krause , Wilfried Kemmer and Fredi Rotermund.

Since his move to VfL Wolfsburg, the trained industrial and foreign trade clerk has worked professionally at the car manufacturer Volkswagen AG and later worked for five years as head of general purchasing in São Paulo , Brazil . Wuttich died on July 31, 2018 at the age of 77 after a long period of Parkinson's disease.
