Ernst Strom (born May 13, 1929 in Munich ; † June 19, 2019 in Vaterstetten ) was a German graphic artist and painter .

Live and act

After attending grammar school, Ernst Strom completed an internship with the set designer Jo Lindinger in Regensburg and studied graphic design with Eduard Ege as well as font and typography with Georg Trump at the Graphic Academy in Munich from 1951 to 1954 . In 1948 he was accepted as the youngest member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Niederbayern / Oberpfalz. In the period from 1948 to 1949 he had friendly contacts with the Danube Forest Group . In 1978 he was a founding member of the Association of Visual Artists, which two years later became the Ebersberg Art Association. He initiated the art exhibitions in the Vaterstetten town hall . He also frequented the Munich water lily circle.

In 1985 Strom received a scholarship from the Richard Seewald Foundation Zurich for a study visit of several weeks at the Casa del Leone in Ronco sopra Ascona in Ticino .

Strom designed numerous book covers, dust jackets, magazines, brochures, leaflets and signets, but above all posters, etc. a. for the city of Munich and the Deutsche Bundesbahn . Many posters emerged as first prizes in poster competitions and are in the collections of the German Poster Museum in Essen , the Poster Museum Emmerich, the Munich City Museum , the Kunstgewerbemuseum Zurich , the Museum of Modern Art New York , the Berlin Art Library and the New Munich Collection . There were regular publications in design yearbooks.

Strom also devoted himself to free painting and printmaking as well as art in architecture . In the period from 1984 to 2003, large wall paintings, reliefs , colored objects, over- portals , colored picture windows in or on profane buildings were created. For the sacred space, an altarpiece, a way of the cross, a mural and a colored wall design were added.

From 1989 onwards, Strom did not take on any more commissioned work and concentrated entirely on free painting. In the following years he expanded his cycle "Fields" in ever new formulations. From 2000 pictures of farms were added.

Since 1972, Strom has participated in group exhibitions with his free work. From 1976 to 2007 he only showed his works in solo exhibitions a. a. in Munich, Regensburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Emmerich, Strasbourg and Bad Reichenhall.

Acquisitions were made from private and public art collections.

From 1954 until his death, Strom was married to the educator Dietlinde Strom, née Miesgang, with whom he had two sons.
