Ernst Winder (born October 2, 1936 in Bludenz ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ until 1989 , then non-attached). Winder was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1969 to 1991 and from 1971 to 1974 the last state councilor of the SPÖ in the Vorarlberg state government .

Ernst Winder was born on October 2, 1936 as the son of the worker Ernst Winder and his wife Othilie in the Vorarlberg town of Bludenz. Winder attended elementary school in Nüziders , secondary school in Bludenz and finally the commercial school from 1951 to 1953 in Feldkirch . Following his school days, he became a commercial clerk at the chocolate manufacturer Suchard in Bludenz in 1953 . In 1957 he moved to a wholesale newspaper distributor as sales manager, where he was employed again until 1961. During this time, in 1959, Ernst Winder joined the Socialist Party of Austria. In 1961 there was another job change to the pension insurance institution for workers in the Vorarlberg state capital Bregenz . In the same year, on August 19, 1961, he married Renate Angeli, with whom he subsequently had two daughters in 1963 and 1968.

From 1965, when Winder was elected to a political position for the first time as a member of the Bludenz city ​​council , he devoted himself entirely to the party. He became state party secretary of the SPÖ Vorarlberg . In the state elections in 1969 , Winder was elected to the Vorarlberg state parliament for the first time as district party leader of the SPÖ in the Dornbirn district. From December 15, 1971, he also inherited the resigning from the state government Walter Peter in his function and became the state councilor for social administration, welfare and health care as well as the state hospitals Gaisbühel , Valduna and Feldkirch . After Winder left the state government after the state elections in 1974 because the SPÖ was no longer a member of the government coalition, he is the last SPÖ state councilor in Vorarlberg to this day (since then the ÖVP has governed in coalition with other parties or alone).

After leaving the government function, Winder was elected on November 4, 1974 in the state parliament to the club chairman of the SPÖ state parliament club. He remained a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament for four more terms. On October 13, 1989, Ernst Winder resigned from the SPÖ and thus also gave up the function of the state parliament club chairman. Until October 10, 1991 he remained as a non-attached member of the state parliament.
