Ernst von der Brüggen
Ernst von der Brüggen (born November 11, 1639 in Sackenhausen , Courland ; † May 25, 1713 ) was a member of the senior council in the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia . He belonged to the Baltic line of the noble family " von der Brüggen ", which had settled in Courland around 1500.
Career
Ernst von der Brüggen completed in 1665 his studies at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands and was in 1676 with the office of provincial deputies Marshal in charge. From 1678 to 1692 he was Obereinnehmer the Tuckumschen head of team . From 1692 he was captain in Windau , in 1697 he was appointed chief captain in Goldingen . He then became a member of the Upper Council of the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia and was Land Marshal from 1698 to 1703 . Parentage and family
The Baltic line of the von der Brüggen noble family in Livonia and Courland went back to the tribe of Philip I von der Brüggen from the Duchy of Kleve and Mark , who emigrated around 1485. They then continued in male order:
- Heinrich von der Brüggen († 1501) was Land Marshal in Livonia from 1495 to 1501
- Eberhard (Evert) I was an order vassal of the Teutonic Order in Courland around 1490 ,
- Philip II († 1556) was a member of the Order Council in the Teutonic Order and Lord of Stenden (in today's Latvia )
- Eberhard (Evert) II. († 1614) receives 1499 from the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order in Konigsberg a Paßbrief, he was master of Stendel and first marriage to Anne of Dönhoff married
- Eberhard III. († 1628) was married to Margarethe von Plettenberg . With his offspring in the second branch, the line of those from the Brüggen continued in Courland after 1759.
- Barthold I († 1631 in Mitau , Kurland) was with Elisabeth von Medem married
- Philip III († 1661) was Ottilie Elisabeth von der Osten-Sacken married
- Otto Reinhold († 1678) was married to Louise Charlotte von Grotthus. He became the progenitor of the Russian line.

Ernst's father was therefore Philip III. von der Brüggen, Lord of Stenden in Courland († 1661), who was married to Ottilie Elisabeth von der Osten-Sacken from the Ilmajen family. He also had a sister. Ernst vd B. was married to Ursula von Sacken, their children were:
- Ernst II von der Brüggen, heir of Stenden († 1726), he was a captain in Grobin and married to Elisabeth von Brüggen (around 1684 - 1757). They had no offspring.
- Ernst III. († 1759 in Mitau), he was the heir to Stenden, he had no descendants. So the first branch was extinct. The trunk sat in the second branch with the descendants of Eberhard III. away.
