Erwin Mosen (born May 18, 1932 in Nickenich ; † February 19, 2016 in Mainz ) was a German stone sculptor .

life and work

Mosen trained as a master stonemason and stone sculptor at the Aschaffenburg master school (graduated in 1971). When, in September 1978, the vocational training center for inter-company training of the Rheinhessen Chamber of Crafts began its work in Mainz-Hechtsheim , he moved to Mainz and became a master stone sculptor there. He trained apprentices and worked in theory and practice in the master class. Later he took over the management of the training area "stone". His artistic abilities, but also his ability to involve the trainees in commissions with public awareness, motivated the young people. Over the years, a series of stone carvings - portraits, animal sculptures and reliefs - emerged which, although in the public interest, could never have been realized in the usual way. Many of these works are made of red Main sandstone, which has been used in Mainz for centuries.

In 1995, Mosen was awarded the Federal Republic of Germany's Medal of Merit .

In 1998 he took part in the sculpture symposium "Borders and Connections" in Rielasingen-Worblingen .

Mosen lived in Mainz-Hechtsheim until his death .
