Erwin "Ährwin" Weiss (born April 15, 1934 in Castrop-Rauxel ; † October 2, 2008 in Dortmund ) was a German singer from the Ruhr area who sang in Ruhr German .

Life

Weiss grew up as one of five children of a miner and a housewife. He learned the carpentry trade and worked as a furniture salesman. At the weekend he made music in a band and played music by Elvis , René Carol and many others.

At the beginning of the 1970s Weiss received a recording contract with Metronome Records and was successful with mostly his own dialect songs. His hit songs often revolved around everyday and Ruhr area topics and he was known under the name "Ährwin". Since I know nothing, because I stay buddy , to my schwatt'n mountains liecht no snow , Here in the Ruhr and Ain Kumpäll fom Ruhr are typical examples of locally influenced songs. His greatest commercial success was in 1973 Dat must also ma 'be (If you are bored by dat Mäusken) , which even made it into the German single charts. “Mäusken” also became his trademark.

In 1976 Weiss first made a name for himself as a singer of fan music. On the occasion of the rise of the Borussia Dortmund soccer club to the 1st Bundesliga in 1976, he published songs such as the BVB song and Wir stand'n nur auf BVB .

After another record deal with Philips / Phonogram , Weiss founded his own music publisher, Dat isset Räkords , on which he re-released all of his new CDs and, in the 1990s, many of the older tracks.

Erwin Weiss continued to have success with fan music, now for FC Schalke 04 . After the S04 rose again to the 1st Bundesliga in 1991, Weiss recorded numerous fan songs and performed many appearances at home games and club events.

In 2001 Weiss had a serious car accident, was in a coma for several months and had to worry about his right arm. Erwin Weiss found it difficult to recover from the physical consequences. Nevertheless, he was seen on stage again and again and was still involved in social projects, e.g. B. for UNICEF , the Aktion Sorgekind and several children's, old people's and animal homes, especially in the Ruhr area.

Later he had another success with a new version of his song Ich build 'mich mein Häusken nur anne Ruhr . He had his last appearance in May 2008.

Erwin Weiss, who had always kept his year of birth and thus his age a secret during his lifetime, died on October 2nd, 2008 at the age of 74 in a Dortmund hospital.
