The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa ( lat. : Archidioecesis Mombasaensis ) is in Kenya located Metropolitan Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Mombasa .

history

The forerunner of today's Archdiocese of Mombasa is the Diocese of Mombasa and Zanzibar , founded in 1955 from the Archdiocese of Nairobi . On December 12, 1964, the diocese was by Pope Paul VI. split into the diocese of Mombasa and the apostolic administration of Zanzibar and Pemba . On May 21, 1990, Pope John Paul II raised him to the Archdiocese of Mombasa .

In 1976 the Garissa prefecture (from 1984 Garissa diocese ) was established from the diocese area. In 2000 the diocese of Malindi was founded. Both dioceses are suffragan dioceses .
