The Archdiocese of Nanning ( Latin : Archidioecesis Nannimensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Nanning in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Pius IX founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Guangxi with the Breve Simul ac on August 6, 1875 from cedings of the Apostolic Prefecture of Guangdong . On June 6, 1914, she was promoted to the Apostolic Vicariate .

It was named Vicariate Apostolic Nanning on December 3, 1924. With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was elevated to the Metropolitan Archbishopric on April 11, 1946 .

In 1984 the secret bishop Joseph Meng Ziwen was ordained, but the state authorities have always regarded him as a simple priest and did not recognize his episcopal authority. He died on January 7, 2007 at the old age of 103. In 2003 Joseph Tan Yan-quan was ordained coadjutor bishop, who succeeded him as Archbishop of Nanning.

Since December 2002, the official Chinese Bishops' Conference has combined the four particular churches of Guangxi to form the Archdiocese of Guangxi. For the Chinese authorities, Joseph Tan Yan-quan has been the official Archbishop of Guangxi since 2003 , while he has only been Archbishop of Nanning for the Holy See since 2007.

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

Ordinaries

Apostolic Prefect of Guangxi

Vicar Apostolic of Guangxi

  • Maurice-François Ducoeur MEP (June 6, 1914 - December 3, 1924)

Vicars Apostolic of Nanning
