The Arch eparchy of Constantinople was established in 1830, but dissolved again in 1867 and merged with the Patriarchate of Cilicia (Patriarch Andon Bedros IX. Hassunian ) in 1866 . The Archeparchy of Istanbul was re-established on October 15, 1928. However, the number of Armenian Christians fell from 7,000 to 3,750 between 1950 and 2002, while the number of parishes rose from six to ten. About half of them are in Istanbul itself.

In 1950 it was still occupied by seven diocesan priests and seven religious priests , the number of which has fallen to two each today. The number of religious sisters also fell from 26 to five during this period.
