The Apostolic Vicariate of Istanbul ( lat. : Apostolicus Vicariatus Istanbulensis ) is in Turkey situated Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicariate with headquarters in Istanbul . From 1925 to 1974 there was no separate Apostolic Vicar and the respective Apostolic Delegate (Nuncio) carried out the duties of the Apostolic Vicar as Apostolic Administrator .
history
The Vicariate was on April 15, 1652 Apostolic Vicariate Konstantin Opel by Innocent X founded. At that time it covered the entire Middle East and North and Central Africa (Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Egypt, Arabia, Palestine and the Balkans). In 1669 the areas of the dissolved Archdiocese of Crete were added. The Vicariate gave on June 27, 1762 by Clemens XIII. part of its territory from the establishment of the Apostolic Vicariate Aleppo . The newly established Apostolic Prefecture of Trebizond was founded on March 13, 1845 from areas of the Apostolic Vicariate. On August 28, 1874, areas for the re-establishment of the diocese of Crete were separated. The Vicariate gave up on March 16, 1926 parts of its territory to the Diocese of Skopje . Two days later, Thrace and Macedonia were covered by the Breve In sublimi Principis from Pope Pius XI. given for the establishment of the new Apostolic Vicariate Saloniki . With the Breve Quae ad christiani Pius XI. on June 20, 1931 the Mission sui juris Trebizond from other areas of the vicariate . The Apostolic Vicariate of Constantinople changed to its current name on November 30, 1990.
