The Escoutay is a river in France that runs through the Ardèche department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises on the Plateau de Vivarais , in the municipality of Saint-Jean-le-Centenier , generally drains in a south-easterly direction and after 23 kilometers flows into the Rhône as a right tributary on the northern outskirts of Viviers .

Due to the low water flow, the Escoutay is mostly hidden in the rubble, especially in the lower reaches in the warm season, and can hardly be seen on the surface.
