Eslinda Núñez Pérez (born December 27, 1943 in Santa Clara ) is a Cuban actress . She is known from television and cinema productions. In 2011 she received the Premio Nacional de Cine.

biography

Nuñez 'birthplace is in the center of Cuba, around 280 km from Havana . Her mother Celia Nuñez was a housewife, her father Ciro Nuñez a bus driver. Her first name "Eslinda" means something like "is beautiful" ( Spanish es linda ). Between 1950 and 1954 she lived in Sagua la Grande because her father was transferred there. In her youth, Nuñez temporarily wrote poetry and painted pictures. She went to school in Santa Clara and graduated from high school.

At the age of 14 she fell in love with the director Manuel Herrera . He made her become an actress. In 1960 she found a job as an assistant manager at the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC). In 1961 she married Herrera in Santa Clara and moved with him to Havana. Núñez studied Spanish language and literature at the University of Havana .

Encouraged by Herrera and other colleagues from the ICAIC, such as Nelson Rodríguez , Humberto Solás and Saúl Yelín , Núñez began studying at the Drama Academy of the Teatro Estudio (on Neptuno and Campanario streets, Havana). Her teachers were Vicente Revuelta , Raquel Revuelta and Ernestina Linares . Later she studied with Professor Julio Matas from the Casa de las Américas . She had her first public appearance in the play Nuestro pueblito ( Our Town , by Thornton Wilder).

In 1962 she began working as an actress, singer and dancer at the Havana Musical Theater , which was directed by the Mexican Alfonso Arau. In the same year she made her debut in the motion picture production El otro Cristóbal , directed by Armand Gatti. Since then she has had a career in cinema and theater simultaneously. As an actress, she appeared in films such as Lucía (1968), Memorias del subdesarrollo (1968) and La primera carga al machete (1969). In the theater she achieved success with appearances in the plays La casa de Bernarda Alba , Los días de la guerra and, above all, Santa Camila de la Habana Vieja . Nuñez starred in foreign films, for example in the Soviet Union (1972), in Mexico (1974) and in Peru (1986). En 1983 obtuvo un importante éxito cuando su trabajo en el filme Amada (película de 1983) | Amada de Humberto Solás recibió el premio de actuación en el Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva (España). On television she was seen in television games and telenovelas, such as El Chino , Pasión y prejuicio , La otra cara , No parqueo , Ana (telenovela) | Ana . Nuñez has appeared in over 50 plays.

Nuñez participated in numerous international film festivals, such as the International Film Festival in Moscow , the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary , International Film Festival in San Sebastian , the International Film Festival in Biarritz , the Festival of Ibero-American cinema in Huelva, the film festival in Bogota, the International Cinema Festival in Amiens and the International Cinema Festival in Nantes. She was also present at the Cuban Culture Weeks in Brazil and Europe and at the Centro Internacional de la Cultura Latinoamericana (International Center for Latin American Culture - CICLa) in Peru. Nuñez was a jury member at the following festivals: International Cinema Festival in Karlovy Vary, Festival of Ibero-American Cinema in Huelva, Concurso José Antonio Ramos. She was president of the jury at the UNEAC Caracol Festival.

Eslinda Núñez has a son with her husband Manuel Herrera. His name is Inti Herrera Núñez and he is also a director. She lives with her family in Havana.
