The Estadio Venustiano Carranza is a football stadium with an athletics facility in Morelia , the capital of the Mexican state of Michoacán .

history

The stadium , named after the first post-revolutionary president of Mexico , Venustiano Carranza , served as the home ground for the Monarcas Morelia football team for a quarter of a century from the winter of 1964/65 until they moved to the larger and more modern Estadio Morelos in 1989 .

In the 1983/84 season of the Mexican Primera División, Morelia's goalkeeper Félix Madrigal scored in the 68th minute a goal for the interim 3-1 (final score 4-2) in the game against Club León on January 8, 1984 when he was the opposing goalkeeper Víctor Manuel Aguado surprised with a shot from his own penalty area .

Today the stadium serves as the home ground for the women's soccer team of the Reinas del SUEUM de Morelia , the record champions of the Liga Mexicana de Fútbol Femenil , and the reactivated men's team of Atlético Valladolid .
