Estelle Yoka Mossely (* 19th August 1992 in Créteil as Estelle Mossely ) is a French boxer . She became world champion in Astana in 2016 and also Olympic champion in the weight class up to 60 kg in Rio de Janeiro in the same year .

Career

Estelle Mossely started boxing as a teenager. She belongs to the boxing club Paris . She is an engineering student.

Since 2010 she has belonged to the elite of French boxers. That year she finished 3rd in the French lightweight championship after losing to Cindy Orain in the semi-finals. In August 2010 she was surprisingly champion of the European Union in featherweight in Keszthely / Hungary . She defeated u. a. Maike Klüners from Germany and Sandra Kruk from Poland. In October 2010 she also started at the European youth championship in Sangatte / France in the lightweight. But she lost there in the quarterfinals against Anastassija Beljakowa from Russia and came in 5th place.

In 2011 Estelle Mossely won a bronze medal at the French lightweight championship after a narrow point defeat in the semifinals against Lucie Bertaud. However, their appearances at the international championships in 2011 were not very successful. At the championship of the European Union in Katowice she lost in the lightweight in the round of 16 against Mira Potkonen from Finland on points and came in 9th place. At the European Championships in Rotterdam she lost in the lightweight in the round of the "last 32" against Helena Falk from Sweden and came in 17th place with all the losers of this round.

In 2012 Estelle Mossely was the first French lightweight champion with a points win in the final over Malva Hammadouche. In the French qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Romorantin, she won against Angélique Duchemin and in the final battle again over Malva Hammadouche. In May 2012 she competed in the 7th AIBA World Championship for women in Qinhuangdao / China. She won there in the lightweight over Ngo Tri Chung, Vietnam, Julia Irman-Göldner, Germany and Tassamelee Thongjan, Thailand. In the quarterfinals they lost to Mawsuma Khorayeva from Tajikistan on points. She took a good 5th place at this world championship. Nevertheless, inexplicably, AIBA did not give her a starting place at the Olympic boxing tournament in London.

In February 2013 she won the French lightweight championship again with a victory over Malva Hammadouche. In July 2013 she represented France at the 7th European Union Championship, which was again held in Keszthely. In the lightweight she defeated Romina Marenda, Italy, Gamze Basar, Turkey and Natasha Jonas, England and only lost in the final against the Olympic champion from London Katie Taylor from Ireland on points, whereby one of the judges had even seen her as the winner.

In 2014 she won her third French championship title in the lightweight with a victory in the final over Melanie Bouveur. This year should be the most successful in Estelle Mossely's career so far. In June she won the silver medal at the European Championships in Bucharest . On the way to this success she defeated Chantelle Cameron, England, Jelena Jelic, Serbia, Romina Marenda, Italy and the silver medal winner of the 2012 Olympic Games Sofja Albertowna Otschigawa from Russia on points. In the final, she lost again to Katie Taylor on points. At the 2014 World Championships in Jeju-si , she reached the semi-finals after victories over Sandra Brugger, Switzerland (2-0), Luu Thi Duyen, Vietnam (2-0), and Kinga Siwa, Poland (2-0) which she lost against Jana Aleksejewna , Azerbaijan (2: 1) and thus won a bronze medal.

In 2015 Estelle Mossely reached the final of the European Games , in which she again lost to Katie Taylor and thus won the silver medal. At the European Olympic qualification tournament in Samsun / Turkey in 2016, Mossely failed in the quarter-finals against the Italian Irma Testa with 2-1 judges' votes and thus missed the qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games . But she was able to make up for this at the World Championships in the same year, when she won after victories over Ri Tong-sun, North Korea (3: 0), Caroline Veyre, Canada (3: 0), Jana Aleksejewna (3: 0), and Katie Taylor (2-1), reached the final. In this she faced the Russian Anastasia Belyakova , who she clearly beat with 3-0 judges' votes and became world champion. So Mossely went to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as the reigning world champion and favorite .

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she won the quarter-finals over Irma Testa with a 3-0 judge's vote, successfully taking revenge for the defeat at the Olympic qualifying tournament. In the semifinals she landed a technical knockout victory in the first round over Anastassija Beljakowa and in the final she defeated the Chinese Yin Junhua with 2: 1 judges' votes. She became Olympic champion in the weight class up to 60 kg body weight.
