Ethel Lackie
Ethel Lackie Watkins (born February 10, 1907 in Chicago , † December 15, 1979 in Newbury Park , California ) was an American swimmer .
She was the first female swimmer to swim 100 yards under a minute. She improved the world record by over 3 seconds. At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 , she was Olympic champion in the 100 m freestyle and with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay . In 1969 she was inducted into the hall of fame of international swimming .
