The Eulenmühle / Eulenmühle-Welschwies nature reserve is located in the Saarlouis district in Saarland .

location

The area is located in the district of Differten in Wadgassen and in the Überherrn and Berus districts of the municipality of Überherrn. It extends in the northwest of Differten over a length of about 2.7 km and about 200-400 m width in a north-westerly direction to the vicinity of the federal highway 269 north of the Linslerhof . The river Bist and its tributaries Höllengraben and Faulebach flow through it.

meaning

The 92  ha area, which was placed under nature protection in 2016 , replaces the former "Eulenmühle" nature reserve (56 ha) and its extension "Eulenmühle-Welschwies" (32 ha). The protection purpose of the nature reserve is the preservation, restoration and development of the flowing waters with their flooding aquatic vegetation, the moist tall herbaceous meadows as well as the transitional and swinging turf bogs .

The main aim of this is to preserve the habitats of the animal species resident there, such as the Russian bear , the great fire butterfly and the helmet azur damsel as well as the beaver .
