EuroVelo in Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The EuroVelo routes in Austria are part of the international EuroVelo project to create a network of 15 long-distance cycle routes that is intended to open up the entire European continent. The EuroVelo coordinator NECC (National EuroVelo Coordindation Center) in Austria is the Radlobby Österreich. She operates the EuroVelo homepage.

The following four routes lead through Austria:

EV 6

The route EV 6 in Austria is identical to the Danube Cycle Path .

EV 7

Coming from South Tyrol the EV 7 runs mainly on the Inn cycle path . From Salzburg the route continues towards České Budějovice in the Czech Republic.

EV 9

Reintal - Mistelbach - Ladendorf - Vienna - Schwechat -Leobersdorf

Leobersdorf- Wiener Neustädter Canal -Erlach: From Leobersdorf to shortly before Erlach the route goes on the Lower Austrian thermal baths cycle path .

Erlach - Lower Austrian border: Since in the original variant of the EV 9 the Semmering would have had to be traveled on the federal road without a cycle path, it was decided to build a new course for this route. A new continuous cycle path runs from Bad Erlach via Pitten - Seebenstein - Grimmenstein to Aspang . From Erlach (near the existing Eurovelo 9) via Pitten, Seebenstein to Warth, a cycle path has already been completed, the Pittental cycle path (May 2010). From Aspang, the panorama road up to Mönichkirchen was not used, as planned at the beginning , but a route through the forest on partially existing local roads and forest roads, away from the B 54, was made. The southern part from Wiener Neustadt to Mönichkirchen was opened on September 17, 2011. The 'old' route from Erlach towards Semmering is labeled with the Schwarzatalradweg and also with Eurovelo 9 (September 2011). The Lower Austrian part of EV 9 ends in Mönichkirchen .

In Styria it bears the designation R12 and leads to the state border in Radkersburg .

EV 13

The Iron Curtain Trail , also known as the Iron Curtain Route, leads along the Austro-Hungarian border to Slovenia.
