The previous winners of the technical award include Jean Dupuy in 2007 for the development of the first TGV and in 2009 the Swedish railway engineer Bengt Sterner as the "father" of the ERTMS system for controlling rail traffic. The political award went to the former EU Transport Commissioner Karel Van Miert in 2007 for laying the foundations for an integrated European rail market and in 2009 to the Swiss Minister of Transport (Head of DETEC ) Moritz Leuenberger for his political commitment to promoting a shift from road to rail .

In 2010 the technical prize was awarded to the former board member of Deutsche Bahn Roland Heinisch ; the political award went to the former Spanish Prime Minister Felipe González . Heinisch received his award for essential contributions to the technical development of the railways on a national as well as international level, with particular mention being made of his commitment to high-speed connections between France, Belgium and Germany. The decisive factor behind the awarding of the political prize to González was his decision to promote the Spanish economy through major investments in high-speed transport .

After the prize was not awarded at all in the 2017 anniversary year and not to one person in 2018, but to the Gotthard Base Tunnel project, the 2019 award went to Catherine Trautmann, the coordinator for the TEN-T corridor North Sea-Baltic region. In 2020 the CEO of the Belgian freight transport company Lineas received an award. He received the award for his economic success in the renovation of the former state rail freight operator and the introduction of a production system that combines elements of single wagon transport with elements of combined transport .
