Europium (II) oxalate (Eu (C 2 O 4 )) is a reddish brown-resistant chemical compound of europium and of the oxalate - anion . It occurs as a monohydrate as well as an anhydrous compound.
Extraction and presentation
The pure representation takes place via the conversion of EuSO 4 with ammonium oxalate .
properties
Like the analogous strontium compound, europium (II) oxalate occurs as a monohydrate and the crystal structure is isomorphic to it. The water of crystallization is released at 160 ° C without the divalent europium oxidizing to the trivalent one. The magnetic transition temperatures of Eu (C 2 O 4 ) and Eu (C 2 O 4 ) * H 2 O are 1.9 ± 0.1 K and 2.8 ± 0.1 Kelvin . The isomer shift in the Mössbauer spectrum is −13.9 ± 0.1 mm · s −1 for the monohydrate as well as for the anhydrous substance compared to a 151 Sm 2 O 3 radiation source .
use
The compound is suitable for the production of divalent europium chalcogenides by reacting with H 2 X ( X = S , Se , Te ).
