Eurosam

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eurosam is a European defense company . It was founded in 1989 by Aérospatiale , Alenia Aermacchi and Thomson-CSF , which are now part of MBDA Missile Systems and Thales . The corporate headquarters are in Le Plessis-Robinson in the south of Paris and in Rome.

The Eurosam company develops, produces and markets European air defense systems such as the MBDA-Aster - anti-aircraft missile for defense against supersonic objects up to tactical ballistic missiles , as well as against military aircraft operating at supersonic speeds . The development costs for the system were financed by the defense ministries of France and Italy . In addition, France and Italy are funding the development of the MBDA-Aster-30-New Technology-NT anti-aircraft missile for better defense against tactical ballistic missiles.

The MBDA Aster 15 and MBDA Aster 30 anti-aircraft missile is used as an anti-aircraft system for the Navy by u. a. the countries of France, Italy in the Horizon-class frigate - destroyers , the FREMM frigate multi-mission and the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle used. England uses the MBDA Aster anti-aircraft missile on the Daring-class destroy the Royal Navy . Saudi Arabia on modified French La Fayette-class frigates. The land-based variant is used by the countries France and Italy.

For the marine version a vertical launcher system (Vertical Launcher System, VLS) of the type SYLVER from the French state company Naval Group (formerly DCNS) is used. The land-based variant is also offered as a mobile version in starter systems on trucks.

The procurement of the land-based version is checked by countries such as Switzerland.

The MBDA Aster 30 anti-aircraft missile can probably also be used with the Thales APAR (Active Phased Array) multifunction radar. The Thales APAR multifunctional radar is currently used on the frigates of the German Federal Navy F124 Sachsen-class , the Dutch frigates of the De-Zeven-Provinciën-class and the Danish frigates of the Iver-Huitfeldt-class in combination with a long-range Thales SMART-L radar and u . a. Raytheon Standard Missile 2 anti-aircraft missiles used.

The British Royal Navy uses the BAE Sampson multifunction radar and a modified Thales SMART-L radar in combination with the MBDA Aster 30 anti-aircraft missile on its Daring-class destroyers .

With the MBDA Aster 30 anti-aircraft missile, Eurosam is the only European anti-aircraft missile system that enables defense against supersonic flying objects over greater distances of more than 100 kilometers and up to great heights.

Alternatives are only available from American suppliers with the Raytheon Standard Missile 2, Standard Missile 3, Standard Missile 6 , the Raytheon Patriot anti-aircraft missile developed in 1960 , or the Israeli-American Arrow missile from Boeing and Israel Aircraft Industries .
