The Eusternbach , known in the upper reaches as the Tollbach and in the middle as the Linzelbach , is an orographically left tributary of the Ems in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . It has a length of 15.9 km.

River course

The Eusternbach rises as "Tollbach" in the Beckum Mountains within the Stromberg district of Oelder and initially flows off in a south-westerly direction. After around 1.8 kilometers of flow, it turns to the east and crosses the 12-hectare Tollbachtal nature reserve , a near-natural Kerbtal .

After a little more than five kilometers, the Gassbach, which also comes from Stromberg, flows into the water on the left-hand side and is referred to as "Linzelbach" from this point on. After a further two kilometers, the Linzelbach leaves the Oelder urban area and then forms, now under the name "Eusternbach", the border between the municipality of Langenberg and the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrück .

To the north of the Selhorst farmers, the Eusternbach changes its direction of flow to the north, takes on the Holtgraben coming from the left and then finally enters the Rheda-Wiedenbrücker urban area. After taking in the Patkenbach flowing in from Batenhorst and crossing the Röckinghausen farming community, the Eusternbach forms the western end of the “Stadtholz” forest area and then flows into the Ems in the south of the Wiedenbrück district on the left.

The water overcomes a height difference of 72 meters during its flow path, resulting in an average bed gradient of 4.5 ‰.

Characteristic

The course of Eusternbaches can be divided into two stream types divide: from the source to the mouth of the Holt trench east of Batenhorst the water is regarded as gravel embossed lowland Bach (type 16), from here the stream counts with increasingly-widening floodplain to its mouth as Small lowland rivers in river and stream valleys (type 19).

In addition, the Eusternbach can be assigned to two fish regions: From the source to the confluence of the Holtgraben, the water belongs to the "upper trout type lowland", from there to the mouth it belongs to the "lower trout type lowland".
