Euterpe luminosa is a species of palm native to South America.

features

Euterpe luminosa is a multi-stemmed palm, usually it forms a developed trunk with further sprouts at the base. The trunk is erect, 5 to 11 m high and 5 to 7 cm in diameter, and gray. The crown consists of 9 to 12 leaves . The leaf sheath is 48 to 65 cm long, green and has no ligule. It is apically scattered covered with woolly, reddish brown hair. The leaf stalk is 20 to 35 cm long, green and thickly covered with woolly, reddish-brown hair. The rachis is 1.1 to 1.4 m long and densely covered with hair like the petiole. There are 48 to 69 leaflets on each side, almost hanging and forming a kind of roof. They are bald, the midrib stands out clearly. The basal leaflet is 20 to 25 cm long, the middle 35 to 41 cm and the terminal 14 to 15 cm.

The inflorescence stands between the leaves and is erect at flowering time. The peduncle is 4 to 5 cm long, the cover sheet around 32 cm long, the bract on the peduncle 32 cm long. The inflorescence axis is 13 to 16 cm long, there are 30 to 40 side branches that are up to 30 cm long. The flowers are in the lower area in triads, distally in pairs or individually.

The male flowers are 6 to 7 mm long, some have a short stalk. The sepals are triangular, 2.5 mm long and short in the lower area. The petals are triangular, 55 mm long, the stamens are on a short receptaculum. The stamens are 1.5 mm long, the anthers 3 mm. The rudiment of the stamp is 1 mm long. The female flowers are up to 2.5 mm long, the sepals and petals are broadly oval and 2 mm long. The six staminodes are very small.

The fruits are ellipsoidal, 2 cm long with a diameter of 1 cm. The scar remains are clear and subapical, the perianth is enlarged and up to 7 mm long. The exocarp is black. The seeds are ellipsoidal, the endosperm is homogeneous with a central, air-filled area. The primary leaf is pinnate with a long rhachis.

Distribution and locations

Euterpe luminosa is only known from the type locality in the Peruvian province of Pasco . Your area is likely to be very small overall. Here it grows in the damp cloud forest adjacent to pajonal vegetation, which is characterized by xeromorphic shrubs. It grows between 2000 and 2500 m above sea level.
